Dunkin' Donuts Plan OKd for Corner of Bloomfield and Kingsland
Residents Had Opposed Drive-Thur
A Dunkin' Donuts outlet has approved for the former Shell gas station located at the corner of Bloomfield Avenue and Kingsland St., across from the Commerce Bank following the granting of a use variance from the Nutley Zoning Board. A variance was needed from the Board to allow the construction of a drive-thru window, which many area residents had opposed.

Traffic concerns were the main reason behind the opposition, with residents stating that area congestion is already severe, especially during morning and evening rush hours--likely peak times for drivers to stop in for that cup o'joe. Area traffic most likely will be increased further if a proposed strip mall is approved for the Bloomfield side of Bloomfield Avenue, although the Bloomfield City Council has not yet approved such a plan.

Demolition of the former structures on that site is currently underway. The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection currently lists the site as a brownfield, indicating a need for cleanup of contamination of the site.
